The Granville Carnival

On Sunday we went to the Carnival in Granville.  Now, despite having worked in the town  for 2 years and having lived locally for 16, I had never been.  The girls came home from their Papa’s on Saturday afternoon, and so we went off to the beach house, which is about 10 minutes away, ready to spend the day at the Carnival on Sunday and see the parade of floats.

We gathered our fancy dress costumes, and off we went.

I knew that all the roads into the city centre would be closed after 10am, and that there would be a shuttle bus service.  In reality we never saw a sign of the shuttle bus, but I think it stopped further away than we managed to park.

I was surprised by how many of the floats had political messages, and by how many of them there were.  There must have been close to thirty of them.  And the quality of the workmanship was excellent.

So for those thinking far ahead, book now for next years 5 day festival of fun at the Carnival.  Tomorrow is the last day, and I heard on the radio that tons of confetti would be thrown, in the confetti battle.  Here is rather a long video, but I think it gives you an idea of what to expect.
